HighPoint Marina & Lighthouse Inn
4634 Courthouse Rd, Mineral, VA 23117, USALive Scout Deep Dive
Stationed directly at the geographic and cultural crossroads of Lake Anna on the northeastern shoulder of the Route 208 bridge, HighPoint Marina & Lighthouse Inn is a quintessential landmark of freshwater Virginia lake life. In operation since 1989, this establishment holds a singular distinction across the reservoir: it is home to Lake Anna’s only true waterfront motel, resting an astonishing 70 feet from the water’s edge. While many modern lake developments tilt toward high-gloss residential enclaves, HighPoint has proudly preserved its gritty, welcoming, and hyper-functional identity as an authentic boater’s crossroads.
The atmosphere here is unapologetically casual, practical, and animated by the rhythms of the water. In the pre-dawn darkness, you will hear the low idle of Yamaha and Mercury outboards warming up, the metallic snap of ratchet straps on trailer winches, and the quiet murmurs of tournament bass anglers comparing notes over hot coffee and weather radars. By mid-day in peak summer, the energy pivots to pure family recreation: pontoon boats idling in to top off with non-ethanol fuel, kids grabbing ice creams from the ship’s store, and weekenders loading up on wakeboard gear and cold beverages. There are no velvet ropes or upscale pretenses here—just genuine hospitality, seasoned advice, and unmatched lake access.
Local Tip
If you are trailering a deep-draft fiberglass bass boat, wakeboard craft, or large pontoon, avoid the northernmost launch ramp. It has a flatter drop-off angle that can require you to back your tow vehicle deeper than comfortable during lower seasonal water levels. Stick to the middle ramps or the southernmost ramp for the best depth and easier floating.
Lighthouse Inn: The Boater's Waterfront Basecamp
Due to strict shoreline zoning laws across Spotsylvania and Louisa counties, hotel developments right on the water are practically nonexistent. The Lighthouse Inn bridges that gap by offering a rare "dock-and-sleep" configuration tailored directly to tournament fishermen, road-tripping boaters, and casual weekenders. The motel units are straightforward, utilitarian, and clean, functioning as the ultimate launching pad where you step out of your room, walk across the grass, and immediately step onto your assigned wet slip.
The property features standard rooms with two double beds along with private outdoor patios that offer panoramic views of the main lake basin and distant ridgelines. Each room is outfitted with essential basecamp amenities—a compact refrigerator, microwave, Wi-Fi, and cable television. Crucially for serious anglers, HighPoint provides electrical hookups right at the docks, making overnight battery charging for trolling motors and onboard electronics completely effortless. For travelers seeking extra elbow room, an independent Efficiency Suite sits adjacent to the tackle shop, offering a private porch facing the 208 bridge, a queen bed, pullout sofa, and full kitchenette.
-
True Dockside Proximity Rooms sit roughly 70 feet from the shoreline with reserved boat slip slips right along the motel walkway.

-
Flexible Self Check-In Late arrivals are fully supported via after-hours check-in procedures, ideal for late-night drives down Interstate 95.
-
Efficiency Suite Option Features a dedicated kitchenette and elevated deck area overlooking the bridge and northern lake channels.
Full-Service Marina & Tackle Outpost
Beyond the motel, HighPoint operates as one of Lake Anna’s primary commercial launch and supply hubs. The facility includes four concrete launching ramps, each flanked by its own boarding pier to keep launch and retrieval traffic flowing quickly during bustling tournament weekends. On the water, their dedicated fuel pier can accommodate up to six vessels simultaneously, dispensing ethanol-free 89-octane marine gasoline—essential for protecting high-performance outboard carburetors and fuel injectors from ethanol phase separation.
Inside the on-site ship’s store, you will encounter one of the most comprehensive tackle shops on the reservoir. The shop stocks live bait—including minnows, nightcrawlers, and seasonal choices—alongside hard lures, multi-arm umbrella rigs, slab spoons, and soft plastics calibrated specifically to Lake Anna’s forage species. The staff maintains active knowledge of daily water temperatures, thermoclines, and striper boils around "The Splits" and local bridge pilings. You’ll also find two-stroke and four-stroke marine engine oils, safety equipment, dock lines, tow tubes, and quick-grab deli snacks.
Local Tip
Trailer parking is strictly first-come, first-served. During major spring bass tournaments and holiday weekends (Memorial Day through Labor Day), single passenger cars sometimes inadvertently take up long trailer stalls. Arrive before 6:30 AM to secure a pull-through spot close to the launch basin, and make sure your trailer hitch is locked.
Navigating Logistics & Strategic Timing
Timing your visit to HighPoint depends largely on your goals on the water. If your priority is tournament-grade largemouth or striper fishing, early spring (March through May) and late fall (October through November) deliver prime conditions with minimal recreational boat chop. During these months, the inn fills quickly with angling clubs, so room reservations should be locked down weeks in advance.
If you are arriving for peak summer recreation, expect lively daytime activity across the marina docks. HighPoint's location directly adjacent to the Route 208 bridge puts you within quick cruising distance of lakeside dining favorites, while water transit up into the North Anna or Pamunkey branches is straightforward and marked. Keep realistic expectations for the motel: it is an honest, vintage roadside-style lodge built for practicality rather than luxury spa pampering, with the occasional quirk like modest shower water pressure typical of rural well systems. What it lacks in polished marble, it more than compensates for with unbeatable convenience, welcoming staff, and immediate access to one of Virginia’s top boating waters.
Recent Impressions
"Highpoint is a fantastic marina right in the center of Lake Anna, perfect access to one of Virginia premiere fishing lakes. Great staff who is helpful and friendly. Lots of services available for docking and storing your boat. Plenty of on water fuel pumps available. I've never stayed at the inn but it looks nice on the outside and has beautiful views of the lake and docks for boats right at your door."
"Amazing customer service! From the very first time I called they took their time to give me a price a quote and a description of the slip I would be renting for the year and I happen to secure the last slip they had, which turned out to be a huge blessing for me and my family because of its low cost and convenient location. I will definitely be renewing here since other nearby marinas are terrible at customer service."
"The room is a room. Not knocking it. It served it's purpose, 3 hots and a cot. Nice place and scenery. People and service was good. Parking is first come first serve and vehicles with no trailers tend to park in the boat trailer parking. So beware if you come with a boat. If you are launching a larger type boat, stay away from the Northern most ramp. Use one if the other 3 ramps."
