Callie Opie's Orchard Restaurant
4533 Zachary Taylor Hwy, Mineral, VA 23117, USALive Scout Deep Dive
The ambiance inside the main hall is defined by soaring timber framing, warm natural woodwork, iron pendant chandeliers, and an intimate mezzanine loft overlooking the ground floor. It manages to feel simultaneously upscale and thoroughly grounded—a room where celebratory anniversaries, wine-pairing dinners, multi-generational family reunions, and casual weeknight dinners seamlessly coexist. Step outside onto the expansive stone patio, and the tone shifts to a breezy country retreat. Flanked by open fields, fruit trees, and the property's rustic 3,000-square-foot red entertainment barn, the outdoor grounds invite guests to linger around ambient fire pits, play casual rounds of cornhole, or sip Virginia craft beer under broad umbrellas with family and dogs in tow.
The Kitchen Philosophy: Seasonal Scratch Cooking
Callie Opie’s kitchen anchors its menu in regional American cuisine with an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced proteins and seasonal produce. Rather than over-complicating farm-to-table plates, the culinary team focuses on robust flavors, generous portions, and Southern warmth. The menu bridges upscale supper-club comfort with coastal Virginia flair, making it equally inviting whether you are ordering dry-aged Certified Angus beef or a towering pimento cheeseburger.
Seafood and steak selections consistently lead the dinner rush. The kitchen's pan-seared sea scallops—caramelized to a golden crust and served alongside rich accompaniments—stand out as the perennial house favorite, rivaled closely by hand-cut ribeyes and signature spiced pork chops. For casual dining, locals frequently point newcomers toward the crispy battered green bean fries served with house spicy ranch, or the blackened fish tacos, loaded generously with flaky, well-seasoned fish beneath crisp slaw and vibrant drizzles.
Local Tip
If your travel plans are flexible during the workweek, book your visit on a Wednesday or Thursday. Wednesday features the cherished "Winner Winner Chicken Dinner" special—a secret-recipe, four-piece Southern fried chicken plate with home-style sides. Thursday nights bring fresh coastal seafood features paired with live acoustic or jazz sets on the stage.
The Sunday Brunch Tradition
On Sunday mornings, the estate transforms into one of the lake region's most beloved gathering spots for brunch. The brunch menu delivers an indulgent collision of savory country breakfast staples and creative morning plates. The Country Benedict—split house biscuits stacked with crispy fried chicken cutlets, farm-fresh eggs, and rich country sausage gravy—is legendary among regulars looking to refuel before an afternoon on the water.
Sweet cravings are answered by decadent French toast plates and fluffy vanilla-spiced pancakes layered with thick-cut bacon and warm maple syrup. Pair your meal with a house bloody mary, a fresh mimosa flight, or botanical herbal cocktails crafted from the full-service bar. Because brunch service moves at an authentic Southern pace, treat the meal as a relaxed dining experience rather than a quick grab-and-go stop.

Plan ahead, arrive unhurried, and settle in for a memorable meal nestled in the orchard pines.
Recent Impressions
"We ate here twice in one weekend and found the food to be consistently good and above average. The BLT and Pimento cheese burgers were great. The French toast bites had jelly instead of syrup as a topping and I thought it was different but really good. The service was a little inconsistent the first time it was great and it seemed the staff was helping each other with refills and check ins making the visit more enjoyable but the second time we came for Sunday lunch we did not receive refills unless we asked, ordered 2 coffees only got one at first, ordered sausage gravy and biscuits but this was not entered to be made so we took it to go. At the end the receipt showed we were charged for 2 sausage gravy’s… etc. but the staff was very apologetic and made everything right so I wouldn’t say that we had an overall bad experience it just could have been better on the service side. Again the food is great and if you want a good burger or breakfast look here."
"I recently had the pleasure of dining at Callie Opie's restaurant. The property is beautifully maintained and has a great outdoor patio. The food and cocktails were DELICIOUS!!! We had the green bean fries with yummy spicy ranch dressing. And I had their Blackened Fish Tacos for my entree. OMG these are by far the BEST fish tacos I have had. The fish was seasoned and cooked perfectly, and I LOVED that they served a large portion of fish in the tacos; they do not skimp on the protein!!! Our server was Macy, and she was very sweet and did a great job waiting on our large, rowdy party."
"Absolutely gorgeous place, inside and out. We love all of the woodwork and atmosphere this place has. The owner is a very hard worker and a really nice guy. All of the employees are very attentive and the food comes out promptly. We have been there many times and have tried several dishes and they are all thought out and put together with love. That is hard to find nowadays. You can't go wrong with anything you order. Well, unless you like spicy and order the Nashville hot chicken sandwich, it's really good but nowhere near as spicy as a Nashville hot. But I understand, people around here don't eat stuff that hot."
