The Atmosphere: Carefree Shores & Lake Life Culture
The vibe at Pleasants Landing is an effortless blend of barefoot beach culture and bustling marina energy. Perched at the southern end of the lake in Bumpass, the property boasts over 2,600 feet of shoreline, panoramic vistas of open water, and an unpretentious, welcoming rhythm. Here, there are no stuffy yacht club attitudes. Instead, you will find multi-generational families unloading coolers, pontoon captains prepping lines, and kids eagerly pointing at the giant rolled-up foam mats waiting by the rental office.
What makes the leisure add-on program so special is its sheer versatility. If your crew is heading out to drop anchor in a serene, glass-calm cove near the dam, your gear becomes the ultimate offshore oasis. If you choose to remain shoreline-bound with a beach day pass, renting these float options a-la-carte lets you set up an elite, sun-soaked base camp just off the sandbar without ever stepping foot aboard a motorized vessel.

Local Tip
Reserve your Lily Pad or towable tube well in advance when booking your pontoon—especially between Memorial Day and Labor Day. These marine add-ons are in ferocious demand on summer weekends and routinely sell out before mid-morning walk-ins even arrive at the gate.
Arrival, Booking Logistics & What to Expect
Approaching Pleasants Landing along the winding tree-canopied blacktop of Pleasant Landing Road, you will find generous on-site parking and clear signage guiding you toward the rental counters and marina office. If you have scheduled an add-on alongside a watercraft booking, arrive roughly 30 to 45 minutes prior to your launch time. This gives you plenty of breathing room to check in, run through safety orientations, inspect tow ropes, and ensure life jackets are properly fitted for everyone in your party.
If you are picking up an 18-foot Lily Pad mat, marina staff will guide you on how to roll, secure, and tether the mat securely to your boat's cleats or swim ladder while under power. The mats are surprisingly lightweight but bulky; having the dockhands assist you during loading ensures your boat deck remains clear and unobstructed for safe cruising out of the no-wake zone.
For shore-only visitors renting equipment for the beach, check-in takes place near the park store. You can easily drag your unrolled pad or Aqualoungers into the shallow swimming area marked off from the boat channel, giving your group an exclusive floating cabana right off the beach sand.
The Local Take: How to Maximize Your Day
Seasoned Lake Anna locals know that the southern public side of the lake features some of the cleanest, deepest, and widest water on the entire reservoir. When you take a towable tube out from Pleasants Landing, cruise slightly north past the marina point into the wider basin before cutting the throttle for tubing runs; this ensures ample distance from docks and shoreline traffic.
When it comes to the 18-foot floating mats, the best strategy is to run your boat into one of the quiet, sheltered coves branching off near the southern waters. Drop your primary bow and stern anchors, kill the engine, unroll the mat, and tether it to the stern cleat using a bungeed dock line. Pair that with saddle floats so swimmers can float upright in the water with drinks in hand while the rest of the crew sunbathes flat on the foam pad.
After you return your equipment in the late afternoon, do not rush off the peninsula. Pleasants Landing is home to El Gran Patron Mexican Restaurant right on the grounds, complete with lake-facing dining. Grab a basket of warm chips, a cold drink, and watch the evening golden hour paint the water, capping off an unforgettable day on Lake Anna.

"Great boat rental at a serene spot at Lake Anna! The staff was super nice and helped us a lot with our kayak rental. The price was also not bad at 15 an hour and 40 all day. One issue is that you do have to pay 5 for children, and 8 for adult for entry. This spot on the lake was also very beautiful. If you visit Lake Anna a boating adventure is a must!"
"I rarely leave negative reviews, but in this case I feel it's only fair to be honest — 3 stars. Nature — 5/5. Lake — 5/5. Absolutely beautiful views, peaceful water, and overall a lovely natural setting. Service — 3/5. Territory — 3/5. We drove over an hour to get here and paid $8 per adult and $6 per child, expecting a comfortable place to relax. Unfortunately, several basic things were missing. There were no handwashing stations near the restrooms. The porta-potties were unbearable in the heat — the smell was overwhelming, and there was no place to wash your hands afterward, which is especially concerning when you're about to eat. There were also no drinking fountains — not even for kids to get a sip of water. And what’s worse, we saw many people entering and enjoying the area without paying, while we had paid for everyone in our group. So the question is: what exactly are we paying for? The place has great potential, but the current level of service doesn't match the entry fee. Hope this feedback helps improve things."
