Live Scout Deep Dive
Tucked away in Bumpass along the southern reaches of Lake Anna, Dukes Creek Marina stands as one of the reservoir’s longest-running and most authentic waterfront outposts. Operating since 1972, this full-service marina strips away commercial pretension in favor of classic, family-first Virginia lake culture. Where modern lakeside hubs can often feel frantic and transactional, Dukes Creek retains a relaxed, nostalgic rhythm where the dockhands remember returning guests by name, the porch chatter revolves around the morning bass bite, and boaters receive genuine, gracious hospitality.
Whether you are towing your own vessel in for a quick drop at the ramp, renting a pontoon for a multi-generational family excursion, or docking at the 24-hour pumps after sundown, the vibe here is welcoming, casual, and refreshingly down-to-earth. It serves as a true community nerve center for Louisa County lakegoers, seasonal campers, and weekend vacationers seeking a reliable, full-service marine compound without the high-stress chaos found at busier mid-lake bridges.
Pontoon Rentals & On-the-Water Outfitting
For visitors looking to get out on Lake Anna without the burden of boat ownership, Dukes Creek Marina maintains a meticulously serviced rental fleet. Their lineup ranges from nimble 5-passenger and 8-passenger craft (equipped with dependable 60 HP to 90 HP outboard power) up to spacious 10- and 12-passenger pontoons designed for extended family outings. Every vessel is kept clean, well-cared for, and turn-key ready, complete with bimini tops for sun protection, USCG-approved safety equipment, and sturdy swim ladders.
Rental logistics are engineered to be beginner-friendly. If you do not hold a formal Virginia Boating Safety Education card, the dock staff walks you through a comprehensive orientation and issues a temporary rental operation certificate on-site, ensuring you feel completely confident handling throttles and lines before casting off. Rental add-ons like two-person tubes, towing harnesses, and stand-up paddleboards allow you to turn a quiet cruise into a full afternoon of water sports. Furthermore, dog owners will appreciate their pet-friendly rental policies, which welcome well-behaved four-legged crew members aboard for a modest flat fee.
Local Tip
While the rental pontoons are equipped with stereo head units, water exposure and cove terrain can make radio signals unpredictable. Veteran Lake Anna boaters always pack a portable, waterproof Bluetooth speaker in their day bag so your playlist runs uninterrupted whether you're anchored at the sandbar or drifting down Dukes Creek.
Launch Ramp, 24-Hour Fuel & Logistics
Navigating the marina’s shores is exceptionally straightforward. For trailered boaters, Dukes Creek features a dedicated boat launch ramp paired with convenient on-site parking. Boaters intimidated by steep or tight reverse ramps can take advantage of the marina's dedicated tractor-tow launch service—a beloved local luxury where experienced staff use a heavy-duty tractor to safely ease your rig in and out of the water. Both daily launch passes and economical seasonal memberships are available.
Fuel anxiety is nonexistent here thanks to Dukes Creek’s 24-hour pay-at-the-pump deepwater fuel dock, which pumps ethanol-free marine grade gasoline around the clock. It is one of the most critical refueling outposts on this section of the lake, sparing cruisers the need to trailer back to a road station when returning late from an evening sunset run.
Legendary Marine Repairs & Service Bay
Ask long-time lake residents or TowBoatUS captains who to call when a motor sputters, and the consensus routinely points straight to Dukes Creek Marina's on-site service department. Staffed by factory-certified technicians specializing in Yamaha, Mercury, and Suzuki outboards, the team handles everything from routine seasonal de-winterization and fluid maintenance to acute electrical and lower-unit rebuilds.
What sets their mechanical crew apart is their empathy for vacationers. When visiting boaters encounter mechanical failures or strike submerged debris on unfamiliar waters, the service team works tirelessly to source parts and execute quick turnarounds, frequently rescuing week-long family getaways that would otherwise be stranded on dry land.

Local Tip
When idling out of Dukes Creek into the wider lake channels, keep a close watch on your depth sounder and stick strictly to marked channel pathways. Lake Anna features shallow rocky knolls and submerged stumps tucked just off shoreline cuts, especially inside tributaries—keeping your engine trimmed up until you reach open water will protect your prop from accidental strikes.
The Deli, Convenience Provisions & Camping
Before you push off the dock, step inside the marina general store. Beyond stocking marine hardware, tow ropes, and propane tank exchanges, the shop features a made-to-order deli counter ready to fill your on-board cooler with fresh subs, wraps, and midday snacks. Returning boaters routinely dock on the return leg purely to grab towering waffle cones of hand-dipped Hershey's Ice Cream—a ritual that has marked summer afternoons here across several decades.
For those who prefer their lake vacations under the open sky, Dukes Creek also operates an exclusive enclave of waterfront and water-accessible seasonal camping sites. Equipped with electric and water hookups, this tight-knit camping community brings together devoted anglers and outdoor lovers who wake up steps from their moored boats. Whether you require an emergency prop replacement, a full-day pontoon charter, or simply an ice-cold drink on a sweltering July afternoon, Dukes Creek Marina remains an indispensable cornerstone of the Lake Anna lifestyle.

"They were easy to work with and we hit a rock and messed up our prop and they were so nice helped us out fixed it and got us back out on the water and didn’t even make us feel bad about that happening. They told us that you know accidents happen. We will rent from them again. They have really good prices really knowledgeable staff and thank you Trevor for all your help."
"While on our fishing trip from New Jersey we had an issue with our Yamaha 250 breaking down on the lake. The Towboat US captain made a call for us recommending Dukes Creek. We brought it to Harrison and he diagnosed it right away. He ordered the part we needed, tracked the delivery, communicated with me every step of the way and installed it asap. Back on the lake the following week! Being from out of town Harrison made us feel comfortable in leaving our boat in good hands. Great service. Great people!"
"Great Rental Place - Great Day at the Lake! Our launched was scheduled for 830. We arrived 15 minutes early to check-in. Everyone inside the office and the crew outside were friendly nice and helpful. We arrived just after 4pm to turn the boat in at 4:30. The boat was a 2016 and in great condition. I know the boats must be used a lot and people can be dirty and not clean up after themselves; so was impressed how good of condition it was in. It was a great day on the lake start to finish. We listened to all of the advice and rules, followed them and had no issues. We will be back! Thank you Duke Marina and Thank you Collin for making the day great."
