Pleasants Landing at Lake Anna
349 Pleasant Landing Rd, Bumpass, VA 23024, USALive Scout Deep Dive
Perched along the scenic southern waters of Lake Anna in Bumpass, Virginia, Pleasants Landing occupies a distinct, Florida-shaped peninsula that extends into the lake with over 2,600 feet of shoreline. Positioned close to the North Anna Dam, this destination serves as a multifaceted hub: part full-service marina, part public beach, part live event venue, and part waterside dining outpost. As one of only two designated public beach recreation areas on all of Lake Anna—the other being Lake Anna State Park—it offers direct public access to open water, making it a beloved gathering ground for day-trippers, vacationing families, and seasoned boaters alike.
The overall vibe is unapologetically laid-back, rustic, and casual. Rather than a manicured, upscale country-club atmosphere, Pleasants Landing exudes the classic charm of a working Virginia lake marina infused with summertime festival energy. On warm summer weekends, the peninsula bustles with action: children building sandcastles along the roped swim line, pontoon boats purring out of slips, personal watercraft cutting across the open cove, and visitors gathering at shaded picnic tables for tacos and cold drinks. During spring, early autumn, and weekday mornings, that tempo shifts into serene tranquility, where kayakers glide along glass-calm water and anglers fish off the quiet shores.
The Waterfront & Beach Experience
The sandy beachfront is the centerpiece for onshore recreation. Day passes grant access to the sandy beach, grassy sunbathing areas, a sand volleyball court, and lakefront picnic areas. Daily beach admission typically runs around $10 for adults (ages 16–74) and $5 for youth (ages 6–15), with young children under five and seniors over 75 admitted complimentary. Daily wristbands are acquired at the marina office or from on-duty beach attendants upon entry.
Unlike ocean beaches, the water directly off the shore remains relatively calm, sheltered from severe wakes by the peninsula's natural orientation, making it comfortable for swimming with floaties and wading close to the bank. Shaded pavilions and scattered picnic tables ring the grassy perimeters behind the sand, offering natural retreats when the midday Virginia sun peaks.
Local Tip
Pack a sturdy pair of water shoes for everyone in your party. While the upper beach features soft sand, the lake bottom just past the shoreline turns naturally gravelly and pebble-strewn. Water shoes keep feet protected and comfortable when wading out into the swim zone.
On-Water Rentals: Pontoons to Paddleboards
For visitors looking to get out on the lake without bringing their own vessel, Pleasants Landing runs an extensive rental fleet directly from the marina slips. The marina carries modern, comfortable pontoon and tritoon boats capable of seating large family crews—ideal for day cruises down toward the dam or dropping an anchor in a quiet nearby cove. For adrenaline seekers, personal watercraft (jet skis) provide spirited runs along the wider lake stretches.
Paddlers will find canoes, solo kayaks, and tandem kayaks available by the hour or for the full day. Departing from the protected cove behind the marina docks provides an effortless launching point to paddle close to the banks without fighting heavy boat traffic. In addition to watercraft, Pleasants Landing rents out fishing poles, beach canopies, and life jackets for out-of-town guests who travel light.

Boat Ramps & Boater Field Notes
For boat owners trailering their own craft, Pleasants Landing features concrete launch ramps providing immediate access to the southern pool of Lake Anna. Launching here positions you near deep, scenic water and away from the heavier congestion found around the Route 208 bridge mid-lake. Trailer parking is designated on-site, though early arrival is mandatory on holiday weekends like Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day, when staging space fills quickly.
Local Tip
Keep a close eye on your trim when backing down during late summer or when the lake pool runs low. Prop wash from heavy power-loading can scour deep holes off the end of concrete ramps, leaving underwater rock and sand bars just past the slab. Back in gingerly, idle off the trailer slowly, and keep your outboard or sterndrive trimmed high until you clear the marina cove.
Waterside Dining: El Gran Patron
One of Pleasants Landing's greatest conveniences is having El Gran Patron Mexican Restaurant situated directly on property. The restaurant occupies the prominent two-story building near the waterfront, offering indoor tables as well as covered outdoor deck seating with unobstructed views across the water and marina slips.
The menu specializes in classic, hearty Mexican-American favorites: sizzling fajita skillets, cheesy enchiladas, oversize loaded burritos, and crisp chips paired with house salsa. Pair your meal with an iced margarita or a cold draft beer after hours in the sun. Note the parking layout carefully: the fenced and gated lot directly adjoining the restaurant is reserved strictly for dining patrons. Park visitors heading exclusively to the beach or boat launch should park in the primary park lot to avoid gates or access charges.
Events, Community & Best Times to Visit
Beyond daily recreation, Pleasants Landing acts as a community anchor for large-scale outdoor events. It plays host to popular gatherings such as the Lake Anna Business Partnership Annual Father's Day Car Show, local music festivals, food truck rallies, and competitive multi-sport events like the Lake Anna Olympic and Sprint Triathlons. When these events hit the calendar, the peninsula fills with spirited festival crowds, vendor tents, and live tunes along the shoreline.

"LABP Annual Father's Day Car Show. Last year's was amazing. What a turnout. It's coming up on Saturday, June 20th from 11-4pm this year. Vendors, Food Truck, Live Music, Beer and Wine plus a wide variety of car owners going after that trophy. Pleasants Landing is the perfect place for it. On the water at Lake Anna, which has a beach area and plenty of kayaking, paddle boarding, boat rentals all to add to an amazing family outing. Check it out. All proceeds going to the LABP Scholarship Fund supporting seniors in Louisa, Spotsylvania and Orange county."
"Great boat rental at a serene spot at Lake Anna! The staff was super nice and helped us a lot with our kayak rental. The price was also not bad at 15 an hour and 40 all day. One issue is that you do have to pay 5 for children, and 8 for adult for entry. This spot on the lake was also very beautiful. If you visit Lake Anna a boating adventure is a must!"
"I rarely leave negative reviews, but in this case I feel it's only fair to be honest — 3 stars. Nature — 5/5. Lake — 5/5. Absolutely beautiful views, peaceful water, and overall a lovely natural setting. Service — 3/5. Territory — 3/5. We drove over an hour to get here and paid $8 per adult and $6 per child, expecting a comfortable place to relax. Unfortunately, several basic things were missing. There were no handwashing stations near the restrooms. The porta-potties were unbearable in the heat — the smell was overwhelming, and there was no place to wash your hands afterward, which is especially concerning when you're about to eat. There were also no drinking fountains — not even for kids to get a sip of water. And what’s worse, we saw many people entering and enjoying the area without paying, while we had paid for everyone in our group. So the question is: what exactly are we paying for? The place has great potential, but the current level of service doesn't match the entry fee. Hope this feedback helps improve things."
