Hunters Landing at The Cove Convenience Store

6320 Belmont Rd, Mineral, VA 23117, USA

Live Scout Deep Dive

Tucked along the upper Pamunkey Branch on Belmont Road in Mineral, Hunters Landing at The Cove Convenience Store serves as one of Lake Anna’s quintessential outposts. More than just a quick road stop, it functions as the energetic pulse point where the lake’s boating world and rural Louisa County collide. Whether you are trailering a wake boat at sunrise, pulling up in a pontoon to grab a bag of ice, or beaching a kayak in search of an afternoon sweet treat, Hunters Landing provides the fuel, provisions, and down-home hospitality that make lake days run smoothly.

The setting is purely relaxed, functional, and sun-bleached casual. There is no pretense here: walk straight off the dock in flip-flops and board shorts, and you will be met with genuine smiles and the comforting hum of an old-school lakeside deli. Operating in tandem with the adjacent restaurant and outdoor bar complex, the convenience store bridges the gap between everyday utility and laid-back holiday living.

The Atmosphere & Boating Culture

Stepping inside Hunters Landing, the first thing returning visitors comment on is the meticulous cleanliness and welcoming community spirit. The staff take serious pride in keeping aisles spotless, counters wiped down, and coolers stocked to the brim. The ambient vibe changes gracefully throughout the day: quiet mornings smell of freshly brewed coffee, hot breakfast biscuits, and quiet chatter between early-bird anglers picking up live minnows. By midday, the energy rises as boaters rush in for sunscreen, cold cases of beer, bagged ice, and lake souvenirs.

Because it sits right at the water’s edge with dedicated marina slip access and a boat ramp, the shop doubles as a nautical crossroads. You will encounter families carrying towering soft-serve cones back down to their speedboats, weekenders restocking coolers before hitting the sandbars, and local homeowners coming in for quick grocery staples without having to make the long drive into town.

Local Tip

Keep an eye out for their multi-flavor soft-serve ice cream machine. Unlike standard two-spigot machines, Hunters Landing features an upgraded setup that churns out up to nine rotating flavors—making it an absolute rite of passage for kids and paddlers docking after an afternoon on the water.

What’s In Store: Deli, Provisions & Marina Essentials

Hunters Landing operates well above the standard gas-station commissary model by running a full-service deli alongside its retail offerings. For visitors packing food for a full afternoon on the water, the deli case provides hand-prepared options that save you from turning on the cabin stove. Freshly mixed chicken salad (custom-prepared without bread if you are watching carbs), hot pulled pork BBQ sandwiches, made-to-order sandwiches, and warm Hunt Brothers Pizza give hungry lakegoers substantial, quick meal options.

  • Ethanol-Free Marine Fuel Dispensed both by land pump and lakeside fuel dock—crucial for protecting marine engines, personal watercraft, and off-road vehicles.
  • Live Bait & Tackle Corner Fully stocked with live minnows, nightcrawlers, hooks, sinkers, and lures tailored specifically for Lake Anna bass and crappie.
  • Nine-Flavor Soft Serve A crowd-favorite specialty soft-serve system providing a massive variety of swirl and flavor combinations on waffle or cake cones.
  • Lake Anna Apparel & Gear Branded LKA hats, tees, hoodies, water-resistant dry pouches, sunglasses, sunblock, and lake-themed souvenir gifts.

Arrival, Docking, & The Cove Synergy

One of the most appealing features of Hunters Landing is its physical integration with The Cove at Lake Anna. When you pull into the property, you are stepping onto a multi-layered waterfront compound. The store operates independently on early-morning hours (opening at 7:00 AM daily) to catch water enthusiasts before they launch, while the adjacent restaurant complex comes alive later in the morning for lunch, dinner, and late-night gatherings.

If arriving by vehicle, parking is readily available right out front on Belmont Road, with room for vehicles pulling boat trailers. If arriving by water, maneuver into the slips along the marina boardwalk. Keep your approach slow—wake zones are strictly observed in the cove area to protect moored watercraft. Tie off temporarily to grab your deli orders, refill your cooler, or fill your tank with ethanol-free marine gas.

Local Tip

If you are planning to dine next door at The Cove restaurant during peak summer weekends, kitchen wait times can occasionally stretch during prime dinner rush. To optimize your evening, top off your fuel tank and grab your ice and boat snacks at Hunters Landing first, or grab quick deli sandwiches if you want to eat out on the water instead of waiting for a sit-down table.

When to Go & What to Expect

Summer weekends (Memorial Day through Labor Day) are high-octane at this property. Saturday and Sunday afternoons between 11:30 AM and 4:00 PM see steady foot traffic from boaters docking to resupply and drivers coming down Belmont Road. Despite the rush, the checkout line moves rapidly thanks to an experienced, upbeat front-counter crew. If you want a serene, uncrowded stop to browse merchandise or chat with the staff about where the fish are biting, aim for weekday mornings or late Sunday afternoons.

Ultimately, Hunters Landing isn't just an errand—it is an authentic slice of everyday Lake Anna heritage. It captures that sweet spot of regional Americana where high-grade fuel, fresh deli sandwiches, tackle, and cold ice cream are always paired with a welcoming greeting before you push back out onto the open water.

"It’s nothing noteworthy — it is a gas station, after all — but for what it is, it’s very clean and nice. We kayaked here for ice cream, and the ice cream was good! I’ve never seen a soft serve ice cream machine like that; it was cool. The workers were super friendly and smiley!"

"Went on a Sunday night and place was busy. We were a party of two and food took 30 minutes to get out to us. Party of 2 next to us had also been told their food was unfortunately taking so long due to a large party. Wings were cool and crab cake was not fully cooked (meat was not raw but the cake had not fully cooked - you could spread the mixture as a dip in a cracker). Asked for crab cake to just come off the bill which they did eventually after being told they pride themselves on their crab cakes and that I was incorrect in it not being fully cooked. Not a big deal, everyone has their opinion. Server was mostly pleasant however I am a bit old school and feel I shouldn’t be put in a position to explain myself at a restaurant. I should say that I was offered something else but when you’ve already waited so long for something and your dining partner’s food was not warm I can’t say I felt that was an option so I tried to eat it but just couldn’t. I have NEVER asked for a meal to be comped but couldn’t justify paying $20 to just grin and bear it. I was also surprised to not receive a table visit by the manager that the server had to call for the food comp. Anyway, it seems their kitchen couldn’t handle the demand last night. Too bad this is the only place in that area of Lake Anna - someone could really make out well if they could start another restaurant in that area."
