Pleasants Landing at Lake Anna
349 Pleasant Landing Rd, Bumpass, VA 23024, USALive Scout Deep Dive
Pleasants Landing is a bustling, family-friendly hub on the scenic southern end of Lake Anna, reborn from a thirteen-year closure to become a vibrant 12-acre peninsula renowned for its panoramic views and community focus. The vibe here is decidedly casual and active, blending the relaxed atmosphere of a public park with the amenities of a full-service marina. It’s a place where families spread out on the sandy beach, boaters launch for a day on the water, and the community gathers for events, creating a constant, pleasant hum of activity. It's one of only two public beaches on the massive lake, making it a popular and essential destination for locals and visitors alike. The overall aesthetic is functional and ever-improving, with a clear focus on providing a joyful and safe environment for making memories.
The atmosphere shifts throughout the day. Mornings often see early-bird anglers taking advantage of the 24/7 boat launch, while midday brings families and sun-seekers to the beach and picnic areas. Weekends are especially lively, with the sounds of children playing, boats cruising by, and occasionally, live music or festivals. Despite the activity, the sheer size of the property—over 2,600 feet of lake frontage—allows for plenty of space to find your own spot. While generally family-oriented, the presence of the on-site El Gran Patron Mexican Restaurant adds a festive dining option that can draw a crowd in the evenings.
Arrival, Logistics & What to Expect
Getting to Pleasants Landing is straightforward, but knowing the logistics is key to a smooth visit. There's a daily park fee for beach and ground access, which is separate from boat launch or rental fees. Expect to pay around $10 for adults (ages 16-74) and $5 for children (ages 6-15), while kids 5 and under are free. You can pre-purchase these passes online, but you'll still need to check in at the marina office or with a beach attendant to get your wristband for the day. The park officially closes at sunset, and the front gate is locked, so no new visitors are admitted after that time.
Parking is available on-site and is free with your park pass. However, be mindful of where you park. The gated area directly behind the main two-story building is reserved for the restaurant, and you'll need to pay $5 in cash to exit if you park there. For boaters, the self-automated, 24/7 boat ramp is a major draw. It operates on a cash-only system, costing a total of $10 ($5 on entry, $5 on exit), and the machine does not provide change, so come prepared with exact bills. After launching, you'll park your trailer in the general parking area.
Local Tip
Recent visitors have noted that basic amenities like handwashing stations near the restrooms can be lacking, and the porta-potties can be unpleasant in the summer heat. It's wise to bring your own hand sanitizer and bottled water, as there are no public drinking fountains. Also, the lake bottom near the park is rocky, so water shoes are highly recommended for a more comfortable swimming experience.
Offerings, Activities & Insider Info
Pleasants Landing is best known for its watercraft rentals, particularly its focus on high-performance jet skis. Here, you can rent modern Yamaha VX Waverunners, which are stable 3-seaters perfect for exploring the wide-open southern basin of the lake. Rentals launch directly from their sand beach docks, getting you on the water instantly. Prices start around $95 per hour, with options for 1-hour, 2-hour, half-day, and full-day durations. The rental includes premium safety jackets, ensuring a secure experience.
Beyond jet skis, the marina offers a comprehensive selection of water activities. You can rent pontoon and tritoon boats, which are highly praised by visitors for being new, clean, and well-maintained. Unlike some other spots, the staff here are noted for being knowledgeable and helpful, providing great advice on where to go on the lake. Other rental options include kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards, available for around $15 per hour or $40 for a full day. For extra fun, you can even rent a floating water mat. For those who prefer a more relaxed day, the public beach is equipped with a volleyball court, and you can rent shaded cabanas for about $20 a day, which is perfect for families wanting a home base.

Check their website or Facebook page before you go; Pleasants Landing frequently hosts community events like car shows, festivals, and concerts which are often free to the public and can add a special touch to your visit.
It's important to note for sailboat owners that there is a potential hazard with unmarked overhead power lines near the exit gate where you park trailers. Extreme caution is advised in this specific area. On the other hand, for those needing fuel, the on-water, pay-at-the-pump station with ethanol-free (87 Octane) fuel is a major convenience. The small on-site store also stocks essentials like drinks, sunscreen, and boating supplies if you forget anything.
Recent Impressions
"Great boat rental at a serene spot at Lake Anna! The staff was super nice and helped us a lot with our kayak rental. The price was also not bad at 15 an hour and 40 all day. One issue is that you do have to pay 5 for children, and 8 for adult for entry. This spot on the lake was also very beautiful. If you visit Lake Anna a boating adventure is a must!"
"I rarely leave negative reviews, but in this case I feel it's only fair to be honest — 3 stars. Nature — 5/5. Lake — 5/5. Absolutely beautiful views, peaceful water, and overall a lovely natural setting. Service — 3/5. Territory — 3/5. We drove over an hour to get here and paid $8 per adult and $6 per child, expecting a comfortable place to relax. Unfortunately, several basic things were missing. There were no handwashing stations near the restrooms. The porta-potties were unbearable in the heat — the smell was overwhelming, and there was no place to wash your hands afterward, which is especially concerning when you're about to eat. There were also no drinking fountains — not even for kids to get a sip of water. And what’s worse, we saw many people entering and enjoying the area without paying, while we had paid for everyone in our group. So the question is: what exactly are we paying for? The place has great potential, but the current level of service doesn't match the entry fee. Hope this feedback helps improve things."
"Had a great time renting a boat here. Jake was extremely helpful and nice and accommodating, we will happily be renting here again!"
