Live Scout Deep Dive
Tucked away on a tranquil northern branch of Lake Anna, Dukes Creek Marina offers a refreshingly authentic and laid-back gateway to the quieter side of lake life. This isn't a bustling, high-energy party hub; instead, it cultivates a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere that revolves around genuine customer service and a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of its surroundings. The vibe is casual, friendly, and thoroughly unpretentious. It’s a place where seasoned boaters and first-time renters are greeted with the same warm, helpful attitude. The focus here is less on flash and more on facilitating a perfect day on the water, whether you're angling for bass or simply cruising with the family. Recent visitors consistently praise the staff, describing them as exceptionally professional, friendly, and knowledgeable, often going above and beyond to ensure a seamless experience.
The marina's physical setting contributes significantly to its charm. Being on a shallower, speed-restricted tributary means the water is calmer, making it an ideal launch point for paddlers and those new to boating. The surrounding channels, often fringed with lily pads, create a picturesque backdrop for fishing kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. The main marina area is a practical, full-service operation, combining a convenience store, deli, fuel dock, and service center into one efficient hub. It’s the kind of place that feels both established and lovingly maintained, where the priority is function and friendliness over polished, resort-style aesthetics.
Local Tip
Because Dukes Creek is situated on the "cool" or public side of the lake, it's perfect for exploring the main body of water. If you're renting, be aware that commercial rentals are not permitted on the "warm" private side, which is contained by dikes near the power plant. The staff provides excellent maps and will review navigation with you to ensure you know the best spots to explore.
Arrival, Booking & The Best Times to Go
Planning ahead is key to a smooth experience at Dukes Creek Marina, especially during the peak season from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Pontoon boat rentals are incredibly popular and booking in advance is highly recommended. You can reserve your boat by calling them directly; note that they do not accept reservation requests via email. For rentals, you must be 21 or older, and a credit card and deposit are required. Be prepared for a $200 pre-authorization on your card on the day of the rental to cover fuel and any potential incidentals.
Arrive at least 15-20 minutes before your scheduled departure time to handle paperwork and get oriented. The staff is known for being flexible; one visitor who arrived late with a toddler was pleasantly surprised when the marina adjusted their time slot at no extra cost, a gesture that speaks volumes about their customer-first approach. Parking can be tight on busy summer weekends. Rental reservations include two parking passes, with additional cars costing $5 each. If you're just launching your own boat, the fee is $15 for launch and park, or you can opt for an annual pass. For a more relaxed experience, consider a weekday visit or booking in the shoulder seasons (late spring or early fall) when the lake is less crowded but the weather is still beautiful.
Offerings, Amenities & The Local Take
Dukes Creek is a comprehensive, full-service marina that caters to nearly every boater's need. Their rental fleet is a cornerstone of the business, featuring one of the largest selections of pontoon boats on Lake Anna. These boats accommodate groups of various sizes, from 5 up to 12 people, and come equipped with bimini tops for shade. While perfect for leisurely cruising and swimming, it's good to know that the rental pontoons have 60 HP motors, which are sufficient for pulling a tube but not at high speeds. The marina is also pet-friendly, allowing furry family members to join the fun for an additional $25 fee.
Beyond rentals, the on-site convenience store and deli are a major asset. It’s well-stocked with everything from groceries, beer, and wine to sunscreen and Lake Anna apparel. For boaters, they carry essential fishing and boating supplies, including nightcrawlers, marine-grade oil, and ethanol-free gas at a 24-hour pay-at-the-pump fuel dock. The deli serves up made-to-order pizza and hand-scooped Hershey's Ice Cream, making it a popular stop. For boat owners, Dukes Creek provides extensive services, including being an authorized dealer for Yamaha, Mercury, and Suzuki engines. They offer boat sales (specializing in Avalon pontoons), a full service and repair department, and various boat storage options, from wet slips to dry trailer storage.
Local Tip
Don't have a Virginia Boating License? No problem. Dukes Creek offers a convenient temporary license option when you rent, making it accessible for out-of-town visitors to get on the water legally and safely. It's one of the many small but significant ways they prioritize customer convenience.

Recent Impressions
"While on our fishing trip from New Jersey we had an issue with our Yamaha 250 breaking down on the lake. The Towboat US captain made a call for us recommending Dukes Creek. We brought it to Harrison and he diagnosed it right away. He ordered the part we needed, tracked the delivery, communicated with me every step of the way and installed it asap. Back on the lake the following week! Being from out of town Harrison made us feel comfortable in leaving our boat in good hands. Great service. Great people!"
"Great Rental Place - Great Day at the Lake! Our launched was scheduled for 830. We arrived 15 minutes early to check-in. Everyone inside the office and the crew outside were friendly nice and helpful. We arrived just after 4pm to turn the boat in at 4:30. The boat was a 2016 and in great condition. I know the boats must be used a lot and people can be dirty and not clean up after themselves; so was impressed how good of condition it was in. It was a great day on the lake start to finish. We listened to all of the advice and rules, followed them and had no issues. We will be back! Thank you Duke Marina and Thank you Collin for making the day great."
