Pleasants Landing Triathlon (Olympic & Sprint)
Program Details & Spotlights
This highly popular, end-of-season race is hosted at the gorgeous Pleasants Landing Marina on the southern tip of Lake Anna. The event includes Olympic and Sprint distance triathlons, aquabikes, and relay races. Swimmers benefit from above-average water temperatures due to the race's proximity to where the lake's warm-water discharge empties, followed by a flat-to-rolling bike course and a scenic waterfront run. The peninsula setting makes this an extremely spectator-friendly event, where family and friends can cheer you on from nearly anywhere on the course.
As the peak summer heat begins to mellow into the crisp morning air of early autumn, there is no better place to wrap up your multi-sport season than the pristine southern shores of Lake Anna. The Pleasants Landing Triathlon is a true local crown jewel, taking over the sprawling, grassy peninsula of one of our most beloved marinas. Whether you are aiming for a personal record in the Olympic distance or tackling your very first Sprint, the atmosphere here is electric, charged with the welcoming, high-energy community spirit that defines Bumpass and the surrounding Louisa County area.
What makes this race truly legendary among mid-Atlantic triathletes is the swim. While other late-season races might have you shivering at the water's edge, Pleasants Landing benefits from its proximity to where the lake's warm-water discharge empties. This means athletes can look forward to remarkably comfortable, above-average water temperatures that make the open-water swim a downright luxurious experience. Once you transition, you will head out onto a beautifully paved, rolling bike course that winds through the quiet, scenic country roads of the county, followed by a fast and flat run that keeps you right along the sparkling waterfront.
For supporters, this venue is an absolute paradise. Unlike typical triathlons where athletes disappear into the distance only to be seen at the finish line, the unique peninsula layout at Pleasants Landing offers panoramic views of the entire event. Family, friends, and local spectators can set up camp on the grassy shoreline to watch the swim start, cheer at the transition zone, and roar encouragement as runners make their final loop along the peninsula. It feels less like a grueling race and more like a massive, lakeside celebration of fitness and community.
After you cross the finish line, there is no rush to pack up and leave. The post-race vibe at the marina is second to none. Runners, swimmers, and cyclists gather on the grass to swap stories, enjoy post-race refreshments, and soak in the expansive, long-water views of the southern end of the lake. It is the perfect exclamation point on a season of hard training, set against one of Virginia’s most beautiful natural backdrops.

Insider Tips
- Arrive Early for Prime Parking: Because Pleasants Landing is a peninsula, parking inside the marina gates fills up quickly. Arrive early to secure a spot and avoid the bottleneck along Pleasant Landing Road.
- Bring Lawn Chairs and Pop-Up Tents: The grassy peninsula is perfect for spectating. Bring camp chairs, blankets, and even a pop-up canopy to set up a comfortable cheering headquarters for your friends and family.
- Pace the Sneaky Rollers: While the bike course is billed as flat-to-rolling, those quiet Louisa County country roads have a few short, sneaky inclines that can sap your legs if you attack them too hard early on.
- Explore Post-Race Dining: After the race, head just a few minutes up the road into Bumpass or Mineral to refuel at one of our local Lake Anna eateries—many of which offer outdoor, lakeside dining to keep the celebratory vibes going.
