Tasty Crab Lake Anna

200 Lake Front Dr, Mineral, VA 23117, USA

Live Scout Deep Dive

Nestled in the heart of Lake Anna Plaza, Tasty Crab offers a unique and satisfying dining experience that feels both comfortably casual and excitingly flavorful. This family-owned spot has become a local favorite by expertly fusing two distinct culinary worlds: the messy, hands-on fun of a classic Cajun seafood boil and the nuanced, savory depths of authentic Chinese cuisine. Whether you're stepping off a boat docked at the nearby slips or driving in for a memorable meal, Tasty Crab provides a welcoming, laid-back atmosphere perfect for families, couples, and groups of friends looking to unwind and dig in.

The vibe is decidedly relaxed and unpretentious. You won't find stuffy tablecloths or a formal dress code here. Instead, the focus is on generous portions, robust flavors, and the simple joy of a shared meal. The interior is clean and straightforward, designed for efficiency and comfort. While some describe it as a smaller takeout-style restaurant with a few tables, it's more than capable of handling groups and provides a cozy setting for a sit-down meal. The prime location at Lake Anna Plaza means you're just steps from the water, allowing for a pleasant stroll along the boardwalk before or after your meal. This blend of convenience and flavor makes it a standout choice among the lake's dining options.

Local Tip

While the seafood boils are the main event, don't sleep on the Chinese lunch specials. They are known for being incredibly generous in portion size—often enough for two meals—and offer fantastic value. Locals often call ahead for a quick and delicious takeout meal, especially praising the General Tso's Chicken and the house fried rice.

What to Order

The star of the show is unquestionably the "Get Your Hands Dirty" seafood boil. You can make your own combo, choosing from delights like snow crab legs, shrimp (head on or off), crawfish, clams, and mussels by the half-pound or pound. From there, you select your sauce—the Cajun garlic butter is a crowd-pleaser—and your desired spice level, ranging from Mild to Extra Hot. These boils come with the requisite corn and potatoes, creating a full and deeply satisfying feast. The "Combination C Seafood Boil" and the "Combo A" with shrimp, snow crab leg, and sausage are frequently recommended favorites.

While reviews are overwhelmingly positive, some diners have noted that the seafood can occasionally be overcooked, making it difficult to shell. It's a rare criticism but something to be aware of. Similarly, while the lobster tail is an indulgent option, it has sometimes been reported as overcooked. However, for every mixed review, there are heaps of praise for the perfectly prepared crab legs and fried shrimp baskets. If you're not in a seafood mood, the Chinese menu holds its own with distinction. Dishes like the Hunan Beef, Orange Chicken, and Beef Yakisoba receive rave reviews for their fresh flavors and huge portions. The fried rice is consistently highlighted as a delicious standout. To drink, you'll find a selection of domestic and imported beers, a modest wine list, and standard soft drinks to quench your thirst after tackling a spicy boil.

"Great food. Best General Tso Chicken I have ever had. The cheese wantons were also amazing. Interior was serviceable. Nothing fancy but it was clean."

"Best seafood without being in an oceanfront town that I have had in a long time. Crab legs and fried shrimp were my favorites. My husband enjoyed the szechuan shrimp with fried rice. Only criticism I have is the lobster tail was overcooked."

"We got a seafood bucket that included crawfish, shrimp and crab. All of it was very overcooked and very difficult to get out of the shell. It was a disappointing seafood experience for sure. I gave two stars because the sesame chicken was average."
