Joe-Joe's Super Heroes & Pizza

117 Mineral Ave, Mineral, VA 23117, USA

Live Scout Deep Dive

Tucked away on Mineral Avenue, Joe-Joe's Super Heroes & Pizza is a beloved local institution that perfectly embodies the unpretentious, friendly spirit of the Lake Anna area. This isn't a flashy, modern establishment; instead, it's a cozy, family-friendly pizza parlor that feels like coming home. The moment you step inside, you're greeted by a warm, welcoming atmosphere where the hum of happy conversations and the incredible aroma of baking pizza and grilling burgers fill the air. It's the kind of place where owner Joe White, who has called Louisa County home since he was nine, pours his passion for good food and community into every dish. The vibe is thoroughly casual and relaxed, making it an ideal spot for a laid-back family dinner after a day on the lake, a quick and satisfying lunch, or for grabbing a few epic sandwiches before heading out on the boat.

The decor is modest and cared-for, reflecting a focus on what truly matters here: hearty, flavorful, and honest-to-goodness comfort food. It's a true neighborhood haven where the service is as genuine as the food. You can expect to be greeted with a sincere smile and treated with the kind of personalized attention that makes you feel like a regular, even on your first visit. This is a place built on confidence, not cockiness, with a deep-rooted belief in serving the best burgers and steak & cheese subs in town. Whether you're a local who has been coming for years or a visitor discovering it for the first time, Joe-Joe's makes you feel like part of the family.

Vibe, Logistics & What to Expect

The atmosphere at Joe-Joe's is pure small-town charm. It's a bustling but friendly spot, especially on weekends when it can get quite crowded with both locals and visitors. The staff is known for being incredibly helpful and friendly, even during the busiest rushes. Parking is typically straightforward, with street parking available along Mineral Avenue. Given its popularity, seating can sometimes be limited during peak lunch and dinner hours. It's a good idea to arrive a little early or be prepared for a short, worthwhile wait. The restaurant maintains a casual, come-as-you-are policy, making it a comfortable destination whether you're in flip-flops straight from the boat or stopping by for an evening meal.

Local Tip

Keep an eye on their Facebook page for daily specials! They often run promotions like "Meatball Madness Mondays" with footlong meatball heroes for a fantastic price, or "Wimpy Wednesday" featuring a cheeseburger, fries, and a drink for a great deal.

What to Order: The Local Take

While "Pizza" is in the name, the locals will tell you that the "Super Heroes" and burgers are where Joe-Joe's truly shines. The owner himself stakes his reputation on having the best steak & cheese and burgers in the area, and customer reviews overwhelmingly back this up. The subs, or "Heroes," are legendary, served on 12-inch whole or 6-inch half hoagie rolls. For a true taste of their best, the **Superhero Steak & Cheese**—loaded with steak, grilled onions, green peppers, mushrooms, and white American cheese—is an absolute must-try. Another crowd-pleaser is **The American Hero**, piled high with ham, turkey, bacon, and American cheese. For those with a heroic appetite, "The Villain" is a two-pound challenge packed with nearly every meat and cheese in the house.

The burgers are hand-pattied, juicy, and served on butter-grilled brioche buns, earning rave reviews as some of the best in town. The **Double Smash Burger** and the **Texas Boom Boom Burger** (topped with onion clovers, cheddar, bacon, and boom boom sauce on Texas toast) are standouts. Of course, the pizzas are also a fantastic choice, with creative options like the "Extreme Meat" and "The 'Super'eme" loaded with toppings. Don't overlook the appetizers; the hand-breaded mozzarella sticks and fried pickle spears are perfect for starting your meal. And for a perfect finish, they serve Hershey's ice cream, with a local agent even noting it as a great after-school treat spot for sampling flavors.

  • Menu Highlights

Superhero Steak & Cheese, Double Smash Burger, The American Hero, Extreme Meat Pizza, Fried Pickle Spears, and Hershey's Ice Cream.

  • Price Point

Very reasonable, with most sandwiches and burgers in the $10-$13 range and large specialty pizzas priced around $16-$20.

  • Insider Knowledge

The restaurant offers more than just pizza and subs, with a surprisingly diverse menu that includes gyros, salads, and indulgent platters like the "Heart Attack Platter" featuring a mix of their best fried appetizers.

  • Good to Know

While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, some patrons have noted that service can be slow during peak times due to the small staff and high demand. Patience is key to enjoying this local gem.

"Some of the absolute best food around, especially the burgers! Joe and his staff are warm and welcoming which makes the experience all the more enjoyable. The Hershey ice cream is a must after your meal."

"I have been here twice. Though the waitresses are friendly, each time the service has been miserably slow. It took a good 15-20 minutes for my order to be taken and there were others who had been waiting longer. Mind you, there were only 5 customers in the building (2 couples and myself). I haven't been terribly impressed with the food either. The fries were limp, greasy, and disappointing. They seemed to be fresh cut. I'd prefer well executed frozen fries over poorly executed fresh fries. The burger I got was just "meh", and also very greasy (even for a burger). Most of the burgers do not seem to come with any vegetables, which could definitely help lighten things up. I'll probably be back to try other items because there's not a ton of options around but I probably wouldn't take guests here or recommend the place based on my experience."

"Went here after working a job in Louisa county. Just googled “sandwich” and this came up. It was fantastic. I got the American hero, the price I paid was a dollar less than what was advertised online. Then I asked if I could get a sweet tea and they gave me one for a dollar cash. Wish I had more cash on me to stick in the tip jar. Will go again if I have another job out there, might also just make the drive to take my girlfriend. This is how a sandwich shop would be in my ideal world, luckily it’s just a 2 counties over."
