Tucked away in the bustling Lake Anna Plaza, Asian Cafe emerges as a delightful surprise and a culinary staple for both locals and seasoned vacationers. When the typical lake fare of burgers and pizza begins to feel repetitive, this establishment offers a refreshing and authentic journey into Japanese cuisine. Specializing in sushi, sashimi, and hibachi, the cafe prides itself on using the freshest ingredients, a commitment that has cemented its reputation as the go-to spot for Asian food in the area. Its prime location, just a stone's throw from the water and across from the Anna Point Marina, makes it a convenient and sought-after dining destination.
The atmosphere inside is a blend of relaxed and refined, creating a setting that is comfortable and decidedly family-friendly. The decor is kept clean and simple, with subtle Asian artistic touches that enhance the dining experience without overwhelming it. Booths with cushions etched in Japanese lettering line the walls, while wooden tables fill the central space, offering a variety of seating arrangements. A dedicated sushi bar and a hibachi grill add a layer of authenticity and a hint of culinary theater to the space. It’s a casual but consistently inviting environment, perfect for a laid-back lunch after a morning on the water or a satisfying dinner with family and friends.
Arrival & Logistics: The Best Time to Go
Asian Cafe is conveniently situated in the modern Lake Anna Plaza building off Route 208, sharing the space with other popular eateries. Ample parking is available for those arriving by car, making access hassle-free. One of the cafe's most unique and celebrated features is its accessibility for boaters. The nearby docks at the plaza allow diners to tie up their boats and walk right in, a convenience that truly embodies the "lake time" spirit. You can even call in a takeout order from your boat, dock for a quick pickup, and be back on the water in no time.
The restaurant welcomes walk-ins, though reservations are appreciated for larger groups. Be mindful that during the busy summer weekends, the outdoor tables with their pleasant water views are in high demand and fill up quickly. A steady stream of takeout orders also keeps the counter bustling. Locals know to plan around these peak times, but the vibrant atmosphere and open-air seating make any potential wait a worthwhile part of the Lake Anna experience. The restaurant is open daily, typically with a break between lunch and dinner service, so be sure to check their current hours.
Local Tip
For a truly seamless experience, especially during the summer rush, consider an early or later dinner to avoid the peak crowds. If you're out on the boat, calling ahead for a takeout order is the ultimate pro move. Grabbing a "Sushi Boat" to-go and enjoying it during a sunset cruise is a quintessential Lake Anna memory in the making.
The Menu: What to Order
The menu at Asian Cafe is a well-balanced mix of cooked and raw dishes, ensuring there's something to please every palate. The hibachi dinners are perennial favorites and considered standouts. The Filet Mignon Hibachi is a particularly popular choice, praised for its tenderness and flavor. These generous dinner portions come complete with fried rice, vegetables, and a choice of soup or salad with their signature house ginger dressing. For those who enjoy a bit of surf and turf, the filet and shrimp combination is a guaranteed hit.
Of course, the sushi is a major draw. The chefs showcase their craft through a wide variety of fresh, beautifully plated rolls. Customer favorites include the Crispy Crab Roll, lauded for its satisfying crunch, and the creative Undersea Roll, which features spicy crab, avocado, cucumber, and shrimp tempura wrapped in soybean paper. Local loyalty shines through in the popularity of the "Louisa Roll," a regional specialty. For a truly impressive and shareable experience, the "Sushi Boat" is a must-do, offering a grand presentation of the chef's selections. The lunch specials offer fantastic value, with hibachi options around $13.95 and two- or three-roll sushi combos that include miso soup.

Recent Impressions
"Nice seating outside with high ceiling covered porch that has large ceiling fans. Portion sizes for lunch were great. We were all full without any leftovers. The waitress was very attentive, checking on the table often."
"We were staying in one of the nearby lake houses for a little getaway, and with only a handful of restaurants in the area, we decided to stop by Asian Café for hibachi. We arrived right after they opened, so the restaurant was nearly empty. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. Right from the beginning, there was confusion with our order. My friend asked if she could substitute the salad for soup, and the employee told her they would “compromise” and make the change. Then she ordered another item and was told it came with six pieces. When the food was ready, the employee apologized and said it actually only came with four. When my friend asked if they could honor what she had originally been told, she was informed she would have to pay extra. Mistakes happen, but when they’re made by the restaurant, I think they should be corrected without charging the customer. We took our food back to our Airbnb overlooking the lake, only to discover that multiple orders were wrong. My hibachi came with soup instead of the salad it was supposed to include. My friend’s order came with a salad instead of the soup she had requested. It seemed like the sides were simply mixed up across the orders. Even more disappointing, both my friend and I specifically ordered our steaks medium rare, and both arrived medium. For a steak that was around $30, that was frustrating. The meat ended up being much chewier than expected and honestly very mediocre. My friend called the restaurant hoping to speak with a manager. She was placed on hold multiple times, only to eventually be told there wasn’t a manager available. The entire conversation felt unnecessarily disorganized and did nothing to resolve the issues. Between the inaccurate orders, improperly cooked steaks, and poor handling of our concerns, the experience simply did not justify the cost. The interior is very basic, and while that isn’t necessarily a problem on its own, neither the food nor the service made up for it. I noticed this restaurant has very strong reviews, but unfortunately that was not our experience. Perhaps there are limited dining options in the area, but based on our visit, I would not return or recommend it. One star."
"While staying on Lake Anna, we went out one day for lunch and decided to try this place. Not overly large, and they were mostly filled. Ordered some sushi, and my wife got some stir fry. Being kind of one of the only places around and maybe the only Asian place they kind of have the corner on the market. Service was a tad slow. There was nothing bad with the food. Everything was ok, just wasn't overly great. If you're in the area and need craving this food, it will get you by."
