Coyote Hole Craft Beverages
225 B, Oak Grove Dr, Mineral, VA 23117, USALive Scout Deep Dive
Tucked away in the wooded heart of Lake Anna, just off Route 208 in Mineral, Coyote Hole Craft Beverages offers a quintessential Virginia experience that is equal parts relaxing, family-friendly, and lively. It has firmly established itself as a go-to destination for both locals and visitors, providing a rustic and welcoming hangout that feels like a secluded escape on its expansive 37-acre property. The name itself is a nod to the rich mining history of Mineral, VA, immediately grounding you in the local heritage. The moment you arrive, you'll feel the casual, laid-back atmosphere; this isn't an upscale winery but a comfortable, come-as-you-are cidery and drafthouse where the focus is on quality craft beverages, good food, and creating lasting memories.
The overall vibe is overwhelmingly relaxed and social. During the day, particularly on weekends, it's a bustling family-friendly hub. You'll see kids and dogs enjoying the spacious outdoor patio and lawn, while parents unwind with a cider flight. Giant yard games like cornhole and Connect Four are scattered across the lawn, inviting friendly competition and laughter. As the sun sets, especially on weekends, the atmosphere transitions. The space can become more of a lively social spot with live music, karaoke, or comedy nights, attracting a vibrant crowd ready to unwind. Despite the evening energy, it maintains its welcoming and communal feel, never tipping into a rowdy party scene but rather a spirited gathering of friends and neighbors.
Local Tip
Don't be fooled by the somewhat hidden entrance behind the Lake Anna Nursery. Follow the signs and you'll open up into the spacious property. Parking is plentiful, but on a beautiful Saturday with a popular event, arriving a little early can help you snag a prime spot near the entrance and a coveted patio table.
What to Drink: Ciders, Beers & More
Coyote Hole's reputation is built on its exceptional hard ciders, crafted from 100% fresh-pressed Virginia apples sourced from the Blue Ridge Mountains. Their tasting room, now known as the Prospect Drafthouse, features a constantly rotating tap list that ensures there's always something new to try. You can't go wrong with a flight to sample their diverse offerings, which range from sweet and fruity to impressively dry.
-
Signature Ciders
A must-try is the 'Oma Smith,' a crisp, semi-sweet green apple cider named in honor of the owner's late Oma (grandmother). The cider sangrias, like the 'Sunset Sangria' (a white wine blend with cranberry, peach, and strawberry), are exceptionally popular and refreshing.
-
Seasonal & Adventurous Flavors
Look for seasonal delights like Apple Pie, Santa's Cookies, or the tropical Piña Colada. For the adventurous, the 'Dragon Fruit' cider comes highly recommended. They also feature an 'Adventure Series' which supports the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
-
Craft Beer & More
Beyond cider, they offer a curated selection of hard-to-find craft beers from other Virginia breweries, as well as their own on-site Mineral Brewing Co. creations. You'll also find wine, and even innovative non-alcoholic, THC, and CBD-infused "LUNA" beverages for a different kind of buzz.
The Food Situation: What to Order
The Prospect Drafthouse kitchen serves up a menu of satisfying and flavorful "pub grub" designed to pair perfectly with their beverages. While some online reviews note inconsistencies with certain dishes, many visitors rave about the food. The clear standout and a local favorite is the Coyote Hole Smash Burger. For a shareable treat, the Pulled Pork Nachos and the Soft Pretzel Bite Trio are excellent choices. If you're looking for a classic pairing, the Loaded Chili Cheese Fries are a satisfying indulgence.
However, the one item that receives near-universal praise is the house-made Apple Cider Donuts. Fried fresh, coated in cinnamon sugar, and served warm, they are described as light, fluffy, and the perfect sweet ending to your visit. Do not leave without trying at least one.
Local Tip
While Coyote Hole has a full kitchen, they are also welcoming to those who might want to bring takeout from a neighboring restaurant to enjoy on the lawn, especially during larger outdoor events.
Events & The Best Time to Go
Coyote Hole is a year-round hub of activity, with a packed calendar of weekly and signature events. If you're looking for a guaranteed good time, plan your visit around one of their happenings. Weekdays offer a more relaxed pace, but the energy builds towards the weekend.
-
Weekly Rituals
You can count on Bingo every Wednesday, Trivia Night every Thursday, and live music on Saturdays. The first Friday of the month brings Comedy Nights, while the second and fourth Saturdays are for Karaoke. Line dancing is also a regular feature, typically on the third Friday.
-
Signature Annual Events
Mark your calendars for their big festivals: Car Shows (May & September), Cider Festivals (May & November), a Beer Festival (September), and a Fall Festival (October). Their most famous event is the terrifyingly fun Mineral Haunted Woods in October and the festive Holiday Light Show in December.
The best time to go truly depends on the experience you seek. For a quiet afternoon of cider tasting and conversation, a weekday is perfect. For a lively, communal atmosphere with entertainment, a Friday or Saturday evening is your best bet. Summer weekends are understandably busy, drawing crowds from the lake, so be prepared for a vibrant scene.
Recent Impressions
"Taking a drive up 522 and saw signs for this spot. Stopped in just after 11 on a Sunday morning and we were the only ones in the place. Turns out all the activity is on Lake Anna during the summer so the local breweries don't get busy till later in the day. We had great service, tried a bunch of the cider and a couple of the beers. Had a tasty hot chicken biscuit sandwich and my daughter loved her walking taco. The main bar area is small, but there's a nice size back room with TVs and a bunch of outdoor space. We love visiting breweries and this one is worth the stop if you're out exploring the Lake Anna area."
"Love this place. All of their in-house ciders I've tried have been excellent. I love the tasting flight to try a bunch of different options. I'm someone who can be very indecisive and likes to try a little bit of everything. The flatbread pizzas are also really good and they have a nice variety. It's a nice location with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating."
"This place has some of the best hard ciders I have tasted. The menu is the most comprehensive, too. I tried their fruity but dry ciders and enjoyed every single one. The Dragon Fruit was my favorite so I ordered a glass separate. The food choices for vegans are limited but that's normal. Bring your doggie because they are permitted everywhere! I highly recommend this place!"
