Callie Opie's Orchard Restaurant

4533 Zachary Taylor Hwy, Mineral, VA 23117, USA

Live Scout Deep Dive

Nestled on a sprawling 25-acre property of scenic Virginia farmland, Callie Opie's Orchard Restaurant offers a genuine farm-to-table dining experience that feels both upscale and warmly inviting. It’s a destination that transcends the typical restaurant model, blending fine dining with the rustic charm of its orchard setting. The owners, who settled in Lake Anna in 1994, established the restaurant to fill a void they perceived for a finer, locally-sourced dining option in the area. This commitment to fresh, regional ingredients is the cornerstone of the experience, creating a menu that is both sophisticated and deeply rooted in Virginian culinary traditions.

The atmosphere strikes a delicate balance between a classic, relaxing dining space and a lively community hub. Inside, the main building features a full-service bar, a primary dining room, and a loft area suitable for smaller private gatherings. The decor is rustic yet refined, creating a comfortable environment for everything from a casual weeknight dinner to a special celebration. Outside, the experience expands onto a large, dog-friendly patio equipped with fire pits and cornhole, offering a more laid-back setting for enjoying a meal or a craft brew. The property also boasts a 3,000-square-foot barn, a picturesque venue for weddings, live music, and other special events, which contributes to the location's dynamic and celebratory vibe.

When to Go & What to Expect

Callie Opie's is a popular spot, especially on weekends and for their special events, so reservations are highly recommended for both dinner and Sunday brunch. You can book a table by calling them directly at (540) 894-4343. Walk-ins are welcome, and the bar area is specifically kept open for guests without reservations. The restaurant is open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and for Sunday brunch from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM; they are closed on Mondays. Ample parking is available on the property, accommodating even large groups and events.

Upon arrival, you'll find a welcoming establishment that caters to various dining preferences. Whether you're looking for an intimate dinner in the main dining room, a casual meal on the patio, or a private party in the loft, the venue is well-equipped. The atmosphere can be lively, particularly when they host live music or other events, which can sometimes contribute to a noisy environment. While many patrons praise the friendly and top-notch service, some recent reviews mention inconsistency, so patience may be required during peak hours. The staff is generally noted as being apologetic and willing to correct any issues that arise.

Local Tip

Keep an eye on their Facebook page for a rotating calendar of events, including murder mystery dinners, paint nights, bourbon tastings, and live music. These special events offer a unique way to experience the venue beyond a standard dinner service and are a favorite among locals.

The Menu & Must-Try Dishes

The culinary approach at Callie Opie's is centered on high-quality, farm-fresh American regional cuisine. The menu changes seasonally to reflect the availability of local ingredients and includes a variety of steaks, seafood, and house-smoked meats. They also offer a thoughtful selection of gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options, with menu items clearly labeled. Recent dinner menus have featured starters like Bang Bang Shrimp, Baked Brie with peppadew jam, and Fried Brussel Sprouts with bacon. For main courses, standouts include the Slow-Smoked Pork Ribs, the Orchard Pork Porterhouse, and the Prime Cowboy Ribeye. While many reviews praise the food, some have found certain dishes, like the ribs, to be occasionally dry or overcooked.

Sunday Brunch is another popular affair, with a menu that ranges from a classic "Callie's Breakfast Platter" to more unique offerings like French Toast Bites drizzled with a grape coulis. The Country Benedict, featuring a biscuit topped with fried chicken, scrambled eggs, and sausage gravy, is a hearty favorite. However, brunch service has received mixed reviews, with some diners experiencing long wait times and food that seemed to have been sitting under a heat lamp.

  • Weekly Specials

Don't miss the themed dinner nights! Wednesday is "Winner Winner Chicken Dinner Nite," featuring a four-piece meal of their secret recipe fried chicken for $18. Thursdays often showcase a special fish or seafood dish.

  • Signature Burgers

The burgers receive consistently high marks. Tuesday night is half-price burger night, and options like the BBQ burger and the Pimento cheese burger are local favorites, praised for being generous and delicious.

Local Tip

For a truly special experience, consider booking one of their holiday meals. Their Thanksgiving pre-ordered dinners have been lauded for being well-seasoned, generous, and a stress-free way to enjoy a holiday feast.

Callie Opie's Orchard is an ambitious and beautiful destination that aims to provide a premier dining experience in the Lake Anna region. Its farm-to-table ethos, stunning property, and lively event calendar make it a standout. While there can be inconsistencies in service and food execution, particularly during busy periods, the overall vision and commitment to quality are clear. It's an ideal spot for a celebratory meal, a romantic evening, or a relaxed gathering with friends, offering a memorable taste of Virginia's countryside.

"We ate here twice in one weekend and found the food to be consistently good and above average. The BLT and Pimento cheese burgers were great. The French toast bites had jelly instead of syrup as a topping and I thought it was different but really good. The service was a little inconsistent the first time it was great and it seemed the staff was helping each other with refills and check ins making the visit more enjoyable but the second time we came for Sunday lunch we did not receive refills unless we asked, ordered 2 coffees only got one at first, ordered sausage gravy and biscuits but this was not entered to be made so we took it to go. At the end the receipt showed we were charged for 2 sausage gravy’s… etc. but the staff was very apologetic and made everything right so I wouldn’t say that we had an overall bad experience it just could have been better on the service side. Again the food is great and if you want a good burger or breakfast look here."

"I captured a wedding at Callie Opie's Orchard in September and really enjoyed the venue. There were neat aspects like LOVE painted in red on the side of the barn. That's one of my favorite pictures from there! There was a pond with a fountain behind the ceremony area which added to the beautiful scenery and there were so many great spots for photos. The venue staff was friendly and helpful, too!"
