We've got sunny skies and a fresh northerly breeze blowing across the waters today, making it a perfect run for boaters watching out for drift wood, while anglers are finding a solid striper and bass bite if they target the deep channels and weed edges.
"Happy" The Bass
Happy is Lake Anna’s official/unofficial mascot, first appearing in the early 1980s. A legendary retro-cool local who has witnessed the entire evolution of the lake since the gates closed in 1972!
- 🐟Deep-Water Roots: Swam down Edenton's flooded farmland channels in '72. Remembers when Sturgeon Creek was just a hand-dug dirt ramp!
- 🟢The Mission: Strong crusader for catch-and-release to foster monster 9-pounders. Tracks "trophy freckles" (crappie) across all 200+ miles of LKA shorelines.
- ❄️The Thermocline: Spans the 14°F warmer Private hot side & cool Public body. November White Perch are his absolute season highlight!

Public Side vs Private Side Water
Water clarity is good in many areas, with timber, docks, grass edges, and channel transitions all worth watching.
Work topwater stickbaits along deep bridge structures and floating docks at morning light. Keep a steady swimbait retrieval over mud flats.
"The public cold side has significantly denser vegetation. Concentrate deep dragging lines inside pockets around Lake Anna State Park."

Hey there lake family, it is an absolute beautiful day to be on Lake Anna, but we have got a couple of key things to keep in mind. First off, a bit of storm debris has drifted into the North Anna arm, so please take it nice and easy on those early morning runs. The water temps are showing a massive contrast right now, with deep readings around 46.6°F on the public side, while the shallow, sunny private side near Dike 2 is sizzling at 84°F. That temperature difference means you will find the fish behaving quite differently depending on where you are floating. On the cold side, get your live shad down to 18 feet for those stripers before the sun drives them deeper. If you are on the warm private side, rip those lipless crankbaits fast over the deep grass tops to trigger bass reaction strikes. Keep it chill, stay safe, and enjoy the lake life!
